Cloverfield [BLU-RAY] (Paramount Home Entertainment, 6.3.2008) Disguised under deliberately goofy, yet deliciously edible-sounding, aliases such as Cheese and Slusho, Matt Reeves' Cloverfield was produced and rushed into theaters under an equally appetizing shroud of secrecy. From last year's incredibly elusive Super Bowl ad to the film's viral marketing campaign, Cloverfield had everybody scratching their heads and drooling in anticipation. Aside from the as-yet untitled title and the Blair Witch-ian visual style, the film's biggest appeal was the enigmatic creature who was last (un)seen hurling the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty onto the crowded streets of New York City. All we knew about the mysterious beast was that it was big and angry. Now that the highy-anticipated project has come and gone, one question has fortunately been answered: Cloverfield was a major success. (continued)

Battling the Bounce

We all know by now Obama has picked Biden for his VP. I'm sure there was of a lot of loud exhaling, since everyone else seemed boring and dull, like the Edwards pick when Kerry ran for President back in 2004. Biden brings experience, excitement, foreign policy credentials and a real ass-kicker personality in the debate field.

In a way, he's kind of like a Democratic version of Dick Cheney, as far as aggressiveness goes. However, as goes with every candidate, Biden has a red flag; he's got the mouth of his which tends to screw him over more times than most. It screwed him this year's primary, and it could screw Obama if he's not on his A-game. Save it for the White House, Biden!

In amazing fashion, the McCain had already jumped to comment on the VP selection and is already making an ad. Bravo, McCain camp! That's fast work. The camp literally responded at 1:50 a.m. ET this morning, saying "There has been no harsher critic of Barack Obama's lack of experience than Joe Biden. Biden has denounced Barack Obama's poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing -- that Barack Obama is not ready to be President."

No offense, but this kind of argument isn't going to really work once you select Mitt Romney for your VP, however I'm sure this is just the beginning of the spinning bullshit we'll have to endure till the debates come. I'd say Romney is more of a liability than anyone else. Do I have to say it? Does "who let the dogs out?" ring a bell?

Regardless of any ad the McCain camp can muster, Obama is going to get a nice bounce out of this until the Democratic Convention and then he'll get an even bigger bounce. Obama made the right move; he made a risk, but it should pay off in the end.
