James Gray‘s Paper Tiger never bores, never slackens, never eases up. Riveting from start to finish. Evil spirits of the Russian mob vortex swirling up and swallowing damn near everything. Highest marks from HE and everyone else. Probably not Oscar-aspirational but a solid crime package meets a suspenseful family stew. Actually it is Oscar-worthy as far as Scarlett Johansson is concerned — she’s excellent as the worry-wart mom.
