No feature film director would even suggest such a scene (24-second mark), even during the scriptwriting stage. Nor this one. For this is the New Puritanism. Where is Barry Sonnenfeld now? Perhaps we could…okay, not retroactively cancel him but at least admonish him? Wild Wild West is 23 years old, but (a) right is right and (b) it’s never too late to punish.
Maybe he should have been more concerned with punching up the REST of that script.
As for what happened to Barry Sonnenfeld, I believe it was this movie is what happened to him.
Having a little Monday lunchtime Salma Hayek “browsing” session? Why not.
Anyway, I do think you’d still see the strip sequence in a decently gonzo indie production. The butt flap scene definitely not, but that’s also because it’s stupid (as was that whole terrible movie).
“Mmmm, what excuse should I use to to post this clip? Ah-ha, ‘cancel culture’ and ‘woke-ism’ to the rescue!” – Wells’ inner monologue.
Wild Wild West is 23 years old.
Was going to suggest it’s been a long 13 years for Mr. Kline.
THAT is what you’re missing from the early aughts…?
Great art across across the past 500 years has celebrated the female form and often male infatuation with said form (no, I’m not confusing this film with great art, but you get my point) Now? Verboten. Wokesters would have us completely de-feminize women.
Supposedly Will Smith brought Barry Sonnenfeld along to Philly for an event where he spoke to students from Smith’s alma mater, Overbrook High, telling them, “…look at this guy. If HE could become a movie director, think of what all of you could accomplish….”
… and, in the next post, you suggest a trailer for “Babylon” is imminent.
