The fundamental beef about A Serious Man wasn’t that Michael Stuhlbarg‘s Larry Gropnik character is boring — there’s no such thing as a boring Coen brothers film — but that he seemed to have only wimpy responses to the cruel manifestations that resulted from God’s decision to curse his life.
