I can’t believe I forgot to mention my strongest reaction to The Avengers, which is that it doesn’t look good enough. Not after seeing those 10 minutes of Hobbit footage at 48 frames-per-second in Las Vegas. How can you keep ’em down on the farm after they’ve seen Paree? Super-expensive CG eye-candy flotsam has to be delivered at 48 fps from here on, and I for one, being “experienced,” felt unsatisfied by the textural tone, sheen and 3D detail of The Avengers. It doesn’t cut it. Not any more, it doesn’t.
