Rugged, urban, working-class guys of the mid ‘50s (when West Side Story takes place) didn’t wear shirts with wide-open, ironed-down collars, complemented by wide-open jacket lapels. That’s strictly a ‘70s disco-era thing. This is the second weird affectation I’ve noticed about this film, the first being that bizarre, Patton–esque American flag poster.
