If you believe that the first three 007 films were the ultimate shit, listening to these ’90s-era Criterion commentaries soothes the soul.
Arguably Robert Downey, Jr.’s Best Acting Scene…Ever
Two Girls and a Guy opened 27 years ago….27! Downey was 31 or 32 at the time. (He’s now 59.)
A dialogue-driven three-hander about dishonesty, game-playing and erotic obsession, pic was written and directed by James Toback and produced by Edward R. Pressman and Chris Hanley. Downey’s costars were Heather Graham and Natasha Gregson Wagner.
“Anora” Is — Hello? — Emphatically Not A “Cinderella Story”
The essential component is white-hot rage, furious pushback, “don’t fuck with me,” “how effing dare you,” etc.
I hate the questions that the Awards Watch guy is tossing at Mikey.
Contending with None-Too-Bright Black Dudes
Yesterday Barack Obama chided young black males for saying they might vote for Trump. The reason black Zoomer dudes feel alienated from Harris-Walz is partly due to garden-variety misogyny, and partly because they feel dissed and dismissed by wokesters and well-educated progressive women in particular. They’ve heard over and over that “men are the problem” and so they’re basically saying “fuck it.” As are many young white men. They don’t like or respect us, they’re saying, so we’re standing with The Beast.
Hate “Mickey 17”, Sight Unseen
Bong Joon-ho is the new Terry Gilliam, and I’m shuddering at the prospect. I say this knowing I’ll have to sit through this effing thing. You think it won’t be a miserable experience? Think again.

Without Any Prompting
Please identify the films in which highly complex communication devices, designated as CRM-114 and AE35, figure prominently in the plot.
Imagine Writing About 10.8 Beyond Fest “Speed” Screening
…and not even parenthetically or anecdotally mentioning the catastrophic Speed 2: Cruise Control (’97)?
The Hollywood Reporter‘s Chris Gardner reports that during the q&a aftermath of Tuesday night’s (10.8) screening someone asked about the possibility of a Speed 3 film. And nobody says zip about Speed effing 2?
And nobody mentions the hugely annoying, physically impossible freeway-gap bus jump sequence? If the authorites had somehow assembled a makeshift ramp that would have elevated the bus leap arc and thereby allowed it to land on the other side…okay.
“Middlebrow Oscar Bait Movie From 1992 Barry Levinson”…Kiss of Death!
Owen Gleiberman’s Variety review shoves a blade between the ribs of Blitz.

Reviews of Underwhelming “Blitz” Will Pop Around Dinner Hour
HE: “Have you received any more reports about Blitz being a problem movie?”
Ruimy: “I keep hearing it’s a major disappointment. With that said, don’t be surprised if the woke London crowd tries to be as polite as possible in their reactions.”
The press saw Blitz this morning. The London Film Festival swells will attend a screening that starts at 7 pm and lets out around 9:15 or 9:30 pm.
