Russell Brand, now embarking on his “Messiah Complex” tour, has been officially and completely forgiven for Arthur. He’s 100% redeemed and then some. Plus I’ve been waiting for someone to take Morning Joe‘s Mika Brzezinski down for her conservative-mannered smugness…zing! Brzezinski and her also-not-hip-enough co-hosts Katty Kay and Brian Shactman were, of course, speaking to Brand in a glib, patronizing way. “Is this what you all do for a living?,” Brand asked. “Thank you for your casual objectification.”

The fun starts around 4:45.

Brand to Brzezinski: “You shouldn’t say ‘he’ when a person is present…that’s basic good manners. You’re talking about me as if I’m not here and as if I’m an extraterrestrial. Why are you nervous? You’re a powerful woman…what seems to be the trouble, luv? You’ve got hair like Princess Diana. You need to lose that ring, Mika!”

Look at Brzezinski’s expression, those narrowed eyes, slightly tilting her head and leaning forward and more or less silently saying “why the fuck didn’t I prepare more and how the fuck do I get myself out of this before I look even more clueless than I do now?” I have a friend with a personality not unlike Brzezinski’s. She acts the same way when she feels cornered or out-gunned.

“Look beyond the superficial,” Brand said. “That’s the problem with current affairs, you forget about what’s important, you allow the agenda to be decided by superficial information. What am I saying? What am I talking about? Don’t think about what I’m wearing, these things are redundant, superficial — don’t be distracted.”

And by the way: Yes, texting your wife that you want a divorce sounds like an extremely aloof and bizarre way to go about it, but texts are merely conversation starters. They’re simply a way to announce a thought or a topic, particularly if the topic is difficult to broach. And then you meet up later and get into it verbally. Or you exchange in-depth emails. If Brand and Katy Perry didn’t engage in any facetime follow-up after the divorce text, that’s a problem. But I’m presuming they did.

With my currently shitty wifi the WordPress URL embed coding isn’t working again so here’s some info of the Messiah Complex tour: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/comedy/news/russell-brand-takes-his-messiah-complex-to-the-middle-east-8649979.html
